My grandfather used to say: "When lightning cracks on the horizon and the thunder rumbles the shore, that is when life turns in an unexpected direction."
Little did he know that the Temperamental Sea produced a lot of storms over my life. And when you live along the deserted shores of the Coastal Oasis, there really wasn't much to do than watch the horizon when the storms rolled in.
Kaw!
A gust of sudden wind blew against my head as I looked up and shielded my face just in time. Crackling bits of electricity prickled against my hand, making every hair along my wrist stand up in sudden alarm. After I crouched to the ground to maintain my balance, long blades of grass grew upward and wrapped around my ankles, steadying my balance.
"Thanks, Meadow," I said as I rubbed my hand against my partner beast standing at my side.
The long, narrow snout of my red Bondu tilted upward. Locking its thin yellow eyes toward the escaping beast flying away, my beast zipped forward and leaped up and down through the growing grass fields along the normally rocky terrain. Waves crashed along the shore while shimmering wings flapped just above.
"Stay focused!" I shouted to Meadow.
With the forward whip of her long red tail along her limbless body, my Bondu shot out vines that wrapped around the silver and yellow Static Elderkaw we somehow tracked down. The beasts were a difficult thing to track down, and my goal was to bond with one. Being my third Elderkaw to track down, I had a good feeling this would finally be the one.
"Now, pull it down!" I yelled to my partner beast.
Meadow pulled her whole body backward and pulled the Static Elderkaw downward. I pushed my Aura out and moved it gently along the Elderkaw's Aura. The beast's Aura even produced static pulses, making my skin tingle. For a moment, the beast seemed to relax. Then, it pushed its wings out, cut the vines Meadow had created, and little zaps flew all over, making my skin burn.
"Dang it!" I stomped on the ground as the Elderkaw flew away, disappearing into a cloud. Meadow sulked back next to me as I petted her smooth head. "Don't worry, we'll get it next time."
From the corner of my eye, a colorful ship appeared far off coast before disappearing into a thick fog. Another flicker of color appeared ahead of me as a winged beast descended far down the shore. The most colorful Elderkaw I'd ever seen nearly crashed onto the shore as two people dismounted the beast. Why did they land in my area? Who were they?
To be continued...
